Evaluating Professional Development research indicates that people learn best when trained directly and receive follow-up support and on-going performance feedback.
According to a poll of executives of Fortune 1000 companies conducted in 2001, managers who were coached for six months to a year estimated that the average return on coaching was $100,000, or roughly six times the cost of the coaching services they received. These managers reported significant improvement in their jobs including better relationships with coworkers, supervisors, direct reports, and clients. Additionally the respondents reported much greater job satisfaction and increased loyalty to the employer. In another report, Nortel Networks employees estimated that ROI from coaching exceeded 500% along with "significant intangible benefits."
Another study reports that training alone increased productivity by an average of 22%but when supplemented with coaching, training efforts yield much greater results, increasing productivity by up to 88% on average.
